スキューバダイビング（３）
週末宮古島へ仲間とダイビングに行きました。サービス満点のダイブショップのお世話で殿様気分を味わうことができました。こんなサービスを提供してくれるショップは他にないだろうと思うようなすばらしいサービスなのですが、一方ではこれに慣れると他のショップに行ったときにサービスが悪いと感じるのでは、と心配にもなります。スキューバは自己責任の世界ですから、出発前に機材が正常に動作するか、すべての機材が整っているか、などを自分で確認し、ダイビングの前に再度確認する、というのは世界共通のルールであり、ダイビングインストラクタにその責任を転嫁することは許されません。また、そのような約束をした上でダイビングツアに申し込みます。ダイビング中もインストラクタはダイバーの安全の責任を持つわけではなく、各自の自己責任で潜っているのです。
これはエンジェルとベンチャー起業家の関係にも似ています。エンジェルは起業家の成功に責任を持つのではなく、起業家を陰で支えて成功の道案内をするようなものだからです。起業家（ダイバー）がエンジェル（インストラクタ）に全面的に頼り、何から何まで用意してもらい、手助けをしてもらうことが自分にとってよいというわけではなく、エンジェルは起業家が独り立ちして事業を開始し、市場を切り開き、競合相手に戦えるような道筋を示し、見守ってやるのが、その役割といえます。エンジェルに全面的に頼って国内の事業に成功できたとしても、世界に打って出ることはできないでしょう。ベンチャー起業家とエンジェルの世界共通のルールはエンジェルが支援者であって、経営の執行を手伝うのは正常ではありません。おんぶに抱っこの関係は他では通用していません。エンジェルは優しい支援者であると同時に、厳しい態度をとる必要もあります。とくに、コンプライアンスに関しては起業家を甘やかすと、将来に悔いを残し、なぜ早く指摘してくれなかったのかと恨まれることにさえなるでしょう。
ダイビングは時に生命の危険があります。機材のチェック、空気圧、体調などは不具合があるときは必ずインストラクタに報告しなければなりません。この告知義務も起業家の情報開示義務と似たところがあります。インストラクタはダイバーが楽しく潜れるような環境づくりをするとともに、自己責任で身の安全を確保できるよう厳しくルールを守ることを告知しなければなりません。各ダイビングポイントで事前にブリーフィングを行い、危険を予告し、守るべき深度と滞在時間を告知するのも安全のためです。ダイバーはこれを厳守することで他のダイバーに迷惑をかけることを防ぎ、自分の安全も守ることができます。ブリーフィングで１０種類の見所があります、と説明を受けても天候や海流、フードチェーンの関係で３つしか見られないこともしばしばです。これもベンチャーの成功確率と似ているところがあります。
このようにダイビングとベンチャービジネスには類似点があり、潜っていてもベンチャーに役立つことを学ぶことができます。
用語解説ブリーフィング

ブリーフィング：事前にこれから起こることの想定シナリオを提供すること。ビジネスでは会議の前に内容と討議のシナリオを説明し、準備すると円滑な運営を可能にする。ダイビングではポイントの地形、海流、水温の変化、遭遇の可能性のある生物、最大深度、滞在時間などを説明し、順路もあらかじめ決めておく。ダイバーはこれに従わなくてはならない。
